Kawana Jasper Needs Our Support!
Dear all,

We have learned that Kawana Jasper, a tireless fighter for justice inour community and a devoted mother, was arrested last Tuesday night (January31st) outside of her home and in front of her children. Judge Hansen ofMagistrate Court set her bail at $50,000 on February 1st. This bail amount is shockingly high—and as a result, Kawana’s family has had a difficult timegetting her out but today Kawana was released on a surety bond. The detailedfacts of what took place are still unclear, but it sounds as though Kawana wasarrested after she called NOPD for help when someone threatened her at home. Weare currently working with Kawana’s family to find the legal resources sheneeds to address any criminal charge and secure her housing.

In the meantime, we are putting a call out for support to everyone we can thinkof to help raise the money that will be needed to support Kawana during thisdifficult time, including legal fees. It is great news that the Jasper familywas able to secure Kawana's release from OPP on bond today, but she faces along road ahead and will need all the support we can muster.

Please consider donating whatever amount you can in order to help Kawana out.No amount is too small. Kawana is a part of our social justice community and wehope to be able to show that we have her back during this difficult time. Sheis a devoted mother and needs to be able to care for her kids.
